Parkwood
Parkwood is one of Durham's earliest, larger neighborhoods, formally established in the early 1960s. The neighborhood sits on roughly 560 acres of rolling hills, in between Research Triangle Park and The Streets at Southpoint, being only a couple miles from each. Though the neighborhood has classic ranch homes from the 1960s-70s, newer construction has taken place over the last decade. Parkwood is now made up of a wide range of single family home styles, including some townhomes. Many lots, especially the older ones, are wooded with medium-sized front or back yards. The neighborhood offers a large amount of acreage dedicated to natural and recreational space, including a multi-purpose athletic field next to a playground, a lake with walking trails, and a community center that features a pool. There are K-12 schools and parks nearby, while being only 20 minutes from Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill.
